It was Sunday, and that meant that today was her day off. There was only so much training she could do before her fingers started to get numb and her body just felt too tired to do anything right. Thus, today she wanted to spend some time at the pool. Perhaps swimming wasn't the best way to rest her body, but Aphaerla loved the water. Moving through water was easier than moving through air, making it less harsh on her body than walking. There was no way she'd ever be able to sit still and do something boring like read, so this was better than the alternative.
Not that Aphaerla was thinking about it like that. Her brain only got as far as 'high dive sounds fun' before she put on a bathing suit and bolted towards the water park as quickly as her legs would take her. Bumping into people was the last thing on her mind. Moving through the dense hallways of the city was a lot easier than moving through the ridiculous density of Twilight Jungle anyway, so as far as she was concerned, if someone bumped into her it was their fault. Running on the wet, slick floors on the water park was a bit more dangerous (and against the rules), but that wasn't going to stop her either. She wanted to get to the pool with the high dive right now and as far as she was concerned, she should have been there five minutes ago. She only fumbled a few times a few times, and managed to avoid face planting this time, so it was a victory.
Her climb up the high dive had the same reckless abandon, and it was a miracle she didn't slip off. Once Aphaerla reached the top, she stretched and loosened her muscles. There was another reason she liked the pool so much, and that was the kind of clothing she could get away with wearing. She was wearing a simple blue two piece bathing suit with no frills. It was the only piece of clothing that showed off most of her mutation, and one of the few things she could get away with wearing that exposed the nice swirly pattern on her stomach. She amped up the lights on her body, from the ones on her forehead, all the way down her arms, down her back, around her stomach, to the ones doing down her legs and feet, to blinding levels for half a second to get as much focus on her as possible and then prepared to do her jump.
The plan was to do a single front flip then add a few twists on the way down, and land head first with as small a splash as possible. All the while she planned on changing the colors of the light she emanated for a particularly great show. Her approach was perfect, so everything else would be perfect. Then as she jumped she slipped on the side of the diving board and went tumbling off the edge. It took her a moment to react to such an unexpected fall, taking most of her time to right herself so that she wouldn't fall into the water on her side. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to turn enough to gracefully fall into the water, landing on her stomach and making a huge splash.
For a moment, she didn't move, more accurately she couldn't move, and floated back up towards the surface of the water face down. Once the stun of such a harsh fall wore off, she righted herself vertically and held her arms up in the air, striking a victory pose like that was totally what she meant to do, barely holding back a wince at the sudden movement. Then, she swam back to the side of the pool, actually wincing at how much it stung to move like that. The worst part was that she was so focused on recovering that she didn't even change the colors of the lights. They stayed white all the way down and that didn't look cool at all.
