Aphaerla continued charging down the halls, only paying a little bit of attention to her team behind her. This was the best she'd felt in a long time. She felt fast, her body felt like, and it felt like she could take on the whole world like this. It took all her self control to keep her lights white, so it'd be easy to see, and not make them change colors every half a second. As cool as that would be go to along with how she currently felt, it was important to be able to see in a place like this. Instead, she made do with jumping off a wall while turning corners to preserve her momentum.
Around a corner, she finally caught sight of a monster. More than that, it was a monster she'd seen before and was at least a little familiar with how to go about killing it. Aphaerla sped up with a determined grin on her face. She readied her spear. Between that and her speed, she had little doubt she'd be able to get through that thing's hard shell via the weak spot she found last time. Much like last time, the battle only lasted moments and the thing didn't even get a chance to fight back. It started to ooze a strange sticky liquid, making Aphaerla step back so she didn't get any on her shoes.
She took a minute to admire her handiwork, if only because everyone else needed a chance to catch up. As much as she hated waiting up for slowpokes, it was probably better than leaving them behind.

Iris was moderately relieved that Etude wasn't racing off even faster than Aphaerla, but the pace was still pretty much impossible. She huffed and puffed as she tried to keep up. At least it felt like she was holding up a little bit better than last time. She kept her focus up as far ahead as she could, thankful that her power let her help even from this far back.

Aphaerla had gotten the best of her, beating her first in speed and then to the kill. Brute speed was not something she could really keep pace with - she was just sticking back with the others and making sure they were safe and not lost, yes - and so the lead adventurer was around a corner and gone from sight before Etude could hear the monster’s end. That was 1/0 in Aphaerla’s favor. If she wanted to have any hope of keeping up, she was going to have to really pick herself up. Wearing a wide grin, she slowed just long enough beyond the monster’s disappearing remains to draw out her greatsword before she broke out into a full charge into the depths of the dungeon, following behind Aphaerla. The ruins wouldn’t be ready for four determined adventurers.

Still burning torches line the walls, each tightly wound hallway managing to look exactly like the last. Eventually, the explorers come across a wall with a mural with a torch on either side. The patterns on the lower parts resemble several trees growing on floating islands, humanoid shapes with wings, or fins, or other odd features, and clouds and rain. It looks like a piece of it has been carved out recently. Archaeologists might be able to do something with these pictures.

Still satisfied with her victory, Aphaerla pressed on. At this point, she was moving fast enough that it was difficult to watch her surroundings closely. It hadn't been so bad so far because most of the ruins were just identical looking corridors and it was pretty easy to see the path in places like that: just look for the area that looked a little different. It worked for most of the ruins, but in this area there were two areas that looked different. There was the path forward, and there was the mural on the wall. The mural was a little darker than the rest of the stone, so she mistook it for a path and plowed face first into it with enough speed to knock her over.
For a moment, Aphaerla was dazed from the impact. She rubbed her nose and forehead, the two areas that got the brunt of it, and tried to shake the stars from her vision. It took her a second before she was able to get up, but she didn't feel too bad once the initial shock wore off. She still frowned at the mural and stabbed the center of it on the off chance this wasn't actually a wall and it actually attacked her. Once she confirmed it was probably safe, she looked around for the actual path and headed that way, albeit a bit slower while she recovered from the hit.
At least it would give everyone else a chance to catch up.

As Aphaerla sped off even faster, Iris was beginning to worry about being left behind for real. It was beginning to make her wonder whether everyone would be better off if she just stayed behind and continued on at her pace...
But then the thud of something incredibly hard striking rock up ahead put an end to that line of thought. At least this time the collision wasn't with Iris herself. She slowed to check on Aphaerla's condition.
"Um... are you okay?"
It was immediately obvious that there was no point in asking, as Aphaerla was already continuing on. If anything the mural appeared to be more damaged than she was. Iris sighed and picked up her speed again, continuing her lookout for anything more threatening than an errant wall.

Aphaerla had stopped. Suddenly, and for unknown reasons; Etude’s first assumption was another monster and another point she’d be behind, but that didn’t seem to be the case. Maybe a monster had popped out and then vanished? If so, Aphaerla had tanked it alone and come out on top, just a little slowed. The surveyor made for worthy competition indeed.
But one thing was clear; this was her opportunity. Etude broke from a fast-paced jog to a full on charge, and hands open and feet pounding on the ground, she tried to pass up the lead explorer.
“The next monster’s mine, Aphaerla!” She shouted as she neared, shot a moment’s glance at the mural for that it looked slightly different than the rest of the wall and so needed to be checked for monsters, and kept right on going. This was a challenge, and she was going to win it.

Still burning torches line the walls, each tightly wound hallway managing to look exactly like the last. The narrow hallway expands into a spacious room, completely devoid of light. Just entering the room makes anyone with magic feel a little sluggish and like their powers are weaker, though those without magical abilities are unaffected. The walls are still made of the same gray stones the rest of the ruins are made out of, but there are a few other types of rocks sticking out of it. They're all crystalline, and shaped like quartz. They're either a very dark purple or black in color. It doesn't look like they were placed here, as there's no structure or consistency with their placement, and they even cover the floor and ceiling. It looks more like nature overtook this part of the ruins, though there is no plant life in the room, just these strange rocks. There's a few loose ones that can easily be picked up.
By the time the explorers reach the end of the room, the ones with magic might feel a bit tired, potentially to the point of feeling out of breath. In the distance an odd wail can be heard. Loud enough and forceful enough that every time the cry echoes through the corridors the walls vibrate.

While she was standing, Aphaerla was still trying to shake off the stars. That is, until she heard a challenge. At that point, it didn't matter how dizzy she was, she had to run. There was no way she could let anyone show her up like that. She charged along with Etude, though her movement was still a bit wobbly and her path wasn't completely straight. She stubbed her toe on the corner of the wall while she went into the next corridor, but she didn't have time to complain about it she had to run!
Normally, Aphaerla would go out of her way to avoid hurting, or even touching, anyone, but this was a special situation. These corridors were narrow and if she wanted to reclaim her rightful spot a little bit of shoving might be necessary. It should be fine as long as it wasn't too hard right?
Iris' words went in one ear and out the other because of the current situation. Regardless, Aphaerla doubted that anything she said could be that important given the lack of urgency in her voice, so she just said the first thing that came to mind.
"Yeah, keep up!"

It looked like the next room was another with the strange energy-draining property. Iris was not happy about this, considering that it reduced the chances of her being able to keep up with the others' preferred pace even more sharply. She gritted her teeth as she willed vitality back into her limbs.
This meant that she was somewhat distracted. So, when Etude took off with renewed speed, Iris just blurted the first thing to come to her mind.
"Don't encourage her!"

“Encouragement is the first ingredient in success!”
Her claim was accentuated by a small “ooph” as she felt a push from the side and, as quickly as she gained it, lost her spot in the lead. But while the hallways were narrow, a large room waited just ahead. It left plenty of room to keep pace alongside her teammate, and once they were nearing the exit, another attempt to cut her off. She would be wary of second attempts at physical contact in order to gain the upper hand and farther spot, be ready to regain her balance and keep on going - she was focused enough on that and trying to speed up her pace while still assuring she’d have energy later that she didn’t notice the room was the culprit for her slowed speed and the tiredness she was beginning to feel. If the crystals weren’t moving and attacking them, they didn’t warrant much attention.

The hallways continue for awhile longer until the ruins suddenly open up. Instead of narrow hallways, the explorers come across a massive room, large enough that the other side can't be seen in the dim light. There are no torches in the room, so the only light in the area is the light the explorers brought themselves. The room looks completely different from the rest of the ruins as well. Instead of being full of gray stone, the walls are colorful, covered with several different types of stones in various colors. None of the stones look like something found near New Sumatra. They form patterns and pictures, mostly depicting large trees, flowers, and floating islands. However, some of the pictures are difficult to make out because they're full of scratches and other marks. Some of the scratches are large and deep and suggest that whatever creature made them has claws significantly larger than a human head.
The wail is getting louder, and the vibration in the walls more intense. In the distance, there are frequent loud thuds that sound like foot steps from a massive creatures. What ever's causing it is getting closer. It sounds like it's coming from the deepest part of the dungeon.

Aphearla smirked as she reclaimed her rightful place at the front. The lights on her body came back on shortly after, because they cleared the weird crystal room, and she smirked. Now there was nothing holding her back. The sound of the strong monster echoed throughout the halls and she couldn't wait to go face it. If it was as powerful as it seemed, this would be one of her biggest tests yet.
"You won't get away from me this time!"
She had no idea whether it was the same monster she heard last time, but it sounded dramatic so she was willing to roll with it.

Iris faltered as she heard the sounds from up ahead. She was pretty sure that she recognized it. Last time, she had been lucky enough that the team had ended up failing to find it. But that luck probably wouldn't hold up this time.
A quick glance at Aphaerla was enough to confirm that it'd be pointless to try to convince her to explore elsewhere today. This was probably just the sort of thing she had come to the dungeon for in the first place.
Iris took a deep breath. All she could do at this point was do her best to give the team a window of survival with her power. But the expression on her face made it clear that she was anything but eager to face that challenge.
