Even though Aphaerla's words weren't directed at her, Iris still felt the need to apologize. It seemed like every footstep was less steady than the last. The room looked unbearably big, and she wasn't quite sure she'd be able to make it all the way across without faceplanting.
"Sorry," she gasped, "but I think... you might need to finish... this expedition without me."
The floor was looking very comfortable, but Iris wasn't about to stop and sit down without permission, especially considering that it sounded like something dangerous was close and she wanted to make sure the team would be alright. In her exhausted, half-delirious state of mind, Iris found herself wishing that the massive monster would save everyone the walk and come attack them right here.

The walls in the room are gray like most of the dungeon, but the room is spacious. Just entering the room makes anyone with magic feel a little sluggish and like their powers are weaker, though those without magical abilities are unaffected. The walls are still made of the same gray stones the rest of the ruins are made out of, but there are a few other types of rocks sticking out of it. They're all crystalline, and shaped like quartz. They're either a very dark purple or black in color. It doesn't look like they were placed here, as there's no structure or consistency with their placement, and they even cover the floor and ceiling. It looks more like nature overtook this part of the ruins, though there is no plant life in the room, just these strange rocks. There's a few loose ones that can easily be picked up. By the time the explorers reach the end of the room, the ones with magic might feel a bit tired, potentially to the point of feeling out of breath. In the distance an odd wail can be heard. Loud enough and forceful enough that every time the cry echoes through the corridors the walls vibrate. --- Room has no hazard. As always, Aphaerla started charging in the direction she thought was right without actually verifying it was right. Just go to where the sound was loud and the monster should be there right? It got louder for a little bit, then gradually started to fade. She was trying to get to the big monster as quickly as possible, and running fast was hard because she had to make sure she didn't run into walls and stuff, so it took her a moment to realize the sounds were not getting louder anymore. She came to a sudden stop and frowned.
"I think I went the wrong way guys, back up!"
Without waiting for them to turn around, she spun on her heel and immediately bolted back towards the way they came. Unfortunately, because she gave them no time to react, the entire part was in her way as she tried to run through them. Aphaerla managed to dodge Tristan, but it put her in a terrible position to try to dodge Iris. Thus, she collided with her as she tried to do a fancy jump over her. Her legs went right onto Iris' chest, and she went flying into a nearby wall. The wall was pretty close, and the speed at which she was moving, and that she was airborne, meant she had no way to avoid hitting the wall. There was a sickening crack as her face hit the wall, then her spear clattered to the floor, then she fell on top of it. She wasn't moving after that, completely out cold.

"It's not the monster I am concerned about. Monsters can at least be fought," Clark clarified, "but I'm worried about the long term effects that the noise is having. It seems to have affected Iris as well."
Clark was utterly exhausted by now, but he was determined not to show it. He marched forward with more and more false vigor. He was done letting Aphaerla lead, and this was one way of asserting himself. It wasn't a moment too soon, because the girl suddenly tried to jump over Iris and failed miserably. This was now a time-sensitive issue. Every minute Aphaerla spent unconscious was potentially another minute of internal bleeding or brain damage.
"Alright, Iris, Tristan, this expedition is over. Are both of you okay? If one of you grab her arms, i'll grab her legs. We will walk briskly, but not run."

Despite his efforts to recover, Tristan was struggling to remain on his feet. As it was, simply following behind Aphy was barely within the realm of possibility, and even that took a great deal more willpower than he would have liked. Whether it was the wailing or the stone in his pocket, something was doing a number on him. As long as they didn't do anything too strenuous, though, he told himself, he should be fine.
Unfortunately, it seemed that strenuous activities were exactly what the party's light source had in mind. It took no time at all for Aphy to decide to go after the source of the unsettling wailing, and it took Tristan even less time to decide that it was in everyone's best interests if he didn't let her know that she was headed in the wrong direction. It seemed a great plan, right up until he realized that they were headed back towards the room with the stones. It was made into an even worse plan when Aphy, upon inevitably realizing her mistake, decided to do a prompt turn around and ran right smack into Iris, knocking herself unconscious.
When the unnamed man asked for help, Tristan considered simply leaving the group behind. The way back to the surface was clear, and, on the off chance that something had wandered in his path, one person would still have better odds of sneaking through. Unfortunately, as tempting as it may be, he could tell that Iris wasn't faring much better than he was, and if the aforementioned creature did exist, they'd have no chance against it while carrying the human torch around. Furthermore, helping them would establish a sense of camaraderie, and potentially help further cement a good reputation with the surveyors.
"Alright," Tristan volunteered, "but if I say that we need to set her down, we have to do it quickly. I'm not feeling a hundred percent at the moment, and she doesn't strike me as the sort who'd appreciate getting dropped."

Iris was prepared to be injured when she joined this expedition, but she hadn't expected it to be at the hands of one of her fellow surveyors. The impact sent Iris tumbling to the ground in a heap. She lay there for several moments, contemplating the idea of just waiting until some monster wandered along and ate her, before the tall man's voice finally registered.
Yes, this was her chance to make up for slowing the party down so much on the way in. Iris pushed herself back up onto her feet, wobbling in a rough approximation of a standing position. She stood opposite Tristan, grabbing one of Aphaerla's arms in an effort to help the two men lift her up. As it turned out, she was using her grip on Aphaerla to steady herself more than she was actually helping, but there was no way she was just going to watch everyone else do the hard work.
Iris's muscles were burning by the time they reached the exit, but at least the slower pace gave her a chance to breathe. She spoke up again, more thinking out loud than actually expecting an answer.
"Is surveying always like this?"
